do somethine really boring or something that relaxes you. my husband likes to read to make him fall asleep.

eat foods with trytophan (is that how you spell it?) in it like turkey. and dairy products. try going for a little walk outside before bedtime. the coolness of the night and stuff like that should help.

of course try not to take naps during the day unless they’re less than 45 minutes long.

also, your best bet would be to get on a schedule then your body will naturally want to sleep and wake at certain times.

    hope that helps

I already know some major things you are doing wrong.
    1. NEVER just lay in bed if you can’t sleep. get up and do something non stimulating. I personally have a racing mind, so I sit up and jot my thougths in a journal for 30 minutes till im not thinking so much. Don’t watch tv or read, they are too stimulating. If you want, read the back labels of cleaners around your house BORING that will rock you to sleep real quick!
    2. If you treat your room like a multi purpose room- knock that off. Do not watch tv on your bed, eat on your bed, read on your bed, do your hw on your bed, etc. The only two things for your bed should be sex and sleep. Your brain will get trained within two weeks that your bed is for sleep and sex only. Now the rare occassions I turn my tv on in my bedroom. I literally knock out 10 minutes later! If you have to be in your room a lot for those things, get a chair or sit on the floor. for the other activities.
    3. Try to rewind your bedtime by 15 -30 minutes every night till you reach your desired bedtime.
    4. More obvious things include- cut out the caffeine 2-4 hours before bedtime. Get more exercise during the day so you are more tired at night. Don’t smoke too close to bedtime if you do smoke…that kind of stuff.
Those are the things off the top of my head which helped me literally cure my insomnia problem about 5 years ago and the occasional sleep problems i experience go away still by utilizing these techniques! Good luck!

Perhaps you can find some useful tips in a web search for "sleep like a log".
